Crown Motors Puts Character First When Setting Priorities For Community Support. Crown Motors was the first group in Holland, Michigan to participate in the Character First Program, and it has been the model for city government, schools and other businesses ever since. Once a month, a facilitator meets with employees about the 49 qualities of character, including honesty, respect, and generosity. Beneficiaries of the dealership's commitment to these principles include Evergreen Commons and Hope College. "We're proud that Evergreen Commons is one of the finest senior centers in the world and Holland is one of the top five places to retire", says Emilie Wierda, who, with husband Craig, owns the dealership. "At Hope College, we invested in the chapel program because it is important to incorporate and encourage the spiritual life of the college." The Wierda family believes caring for other people on either end of the age continuum has a large impact on the community. Hope College serves a 3,000 student population. Evergreen Commons offers enrichment programs and health care services to well over 5,000 seniors each year. "It's this kind of public-private partnership that makes us a success", says Larry Erlandson, President and Chief Operating Officer of Evergreen Commons. "The Wierdas have provided leadership, volunteerism, and financial support that serve as an example to us all". It shows what's possible if you put character first.
Following its commitment to the principles of the Character First Program, Crown Motors, including General Sales Manager Dave Pronk, supports Evergreen Commons and the efforts of Development and Marketing Director Abby Reeg in serving more than 5,000 area seniors each year.
